Drain still blocked

Reported in the Blocked drains category anonymously at 09:29, Wed 29 August 2018 using FixMyStreet Pro

Sent to Bromley Council less than a minute later

Your previous report 1241255 suggested a potential blockage was identified and the situation would be monitored. I have just walked past the drain while it was raining and nothing appeared to be going down the drain. All the rainwater was flowing down Pickhurst Rise.

  • This issue has been investigated and traced to an issue with the drainage in Rays Road. As this is a private road we are currently discussing access arrangements with Jewsons to allow the works to be completed. At this stage we are unable to provide a date when these works will be completed.

  • Our legal team are still discussing access arrangements with Jewsons to allow the works to be completed. At this stage we are unable to provide a date when these works will be completed.

  • Drain still blocked. This morning, 3rd March, is the first time I have seen the drain since overnight rain. It is full of rainwater. It is no longer raining, but it remains full. The 'Rays Road' problem possibly still exists.

  • Thank you for the latest update. Our drainage contractor has attended on two occasions to clear various gullies around this location but seemingly, on the basis of your latest update, this has been ineffective. Could you please provide more specific details as to the location of the blocked drainage asset, with the consideration that Rays Road is a private road and not the responsibility of the Council. Thank you very much indeed.

  • It would appear that following your drain clearances the drain does indeed work, but it seems the drain can only take a small amount of water before the rainwater coming in exceeds the rate it can drain away. Once this happens the drain looks to be blocked although it is possibly still taking a small amount of water. I am no drain expert, but I assume the drain needs a certain flow rate to avoid silting up. Just to confirm, the drain in question is directly opposite Rays Road near the width restriction. It is the first drain since Hawes Lane.

  • This location was checked by Alistair and Ron and is private road and Bromley Council has no jurisdiction over this and is the responsibility of the residents. Therefore we as Council will not take any further action.

  • The drain in question is in Red Lodge Road, opposite the entrance to Rays Road. If you scroll through the history of this problem it has previously been identified as linked to the drainage in Rays Road, which is indeed private, and the legal situation was in question. A council drain is linked to a private drain.
