Road collapsing, causing danger to traffic and cyclists

Reported in the Roads/highways category anonymously at 23:20, Wed 1 August 2018

Sent to Hampshire County Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 1378267.

This has been reported before and nothing has been done about it. The road is gradually collapsing, causing a significant anomaly in the road surface, which is worsening daily. The problem has been there for over a year and has been ignored.

Updates

  • Reported direct to council with no real feedback. The job has been botched, as in a top dressing has reduced the terrible bump, but it’s already noticeable that there is still movement in the sub strata. Rather that the solid bump there was before, there is now a dip about two car lengths before, then a steady rise with a small bump, followed by a second bump. Temporarily fixed, maybe; remedied, certainly not! Still dangerous.

  • As before, some temporary works have been completed to reduce the extent of the subsidence but it hasn’t been repaired. I have had a phone call from a local councilor who has told me ‘discussions were underway’ and that the problem was ‘complex’, but he couldn’t give any further details as when he had requested information, this was all he was given by County. This problem has now been ongoing for the best part of eighteen months and little has been managed. Highlands Road is a main thoroughfare and a preferred route for abnormal loads, yet the attention this has been given is poor.

  • Totally ridiculous! This issue has been ongoing for the best part of two years now, and still the only thing that has materialized after months of contacting the council is a shabby bit of remedial top dressing that has already sunk. However complex this problem is, by now I’d have thought it solved. This is a joke!
