Lack of signage

Reported in the Road traffic signs category anonymously at 11:32, Sat 14 July 2018

Sent to West Sussex County Council 2 minutes later. FixMyStreet ref: 1363339.

Dear Sir or Madam

I need to draw your attention to a road problem on the southbound carriageway of the A24. We were driving down on the outside lane from the Southwater roundabout when a van came round the corner heading towards us, going the wrong way. It was a very scary moment as it was 4.30 pm and very busy, thank goodness we both managed to stop and I got into the nearside lane and he started backing back towards Bar Lane where he'd obviously had come out from.

I have often thought that for a stranger the signs are not obvious enough to tell people that when they get to the end of Bar Lane that it is a dual carriageway not a single track road.

Perhaps you could look again at it and improve the signs.

Kind Regards

Jenny Jones Storrington

Updates

  • I believe that a vehicle could start up the wrong side of the dual carriageway from Bar Lane again, we were so lucky this time we both managed to stop in time but at night or if we were speeding there could have been a really nasty accident involving several vehicles.
