No audible sound for blind people on new pedestrian crossing

Reported in the Traffic lights category by Neil Alexander at 08:25, Sat 25 September 2010

Sent to West Sussex County Council 5 minutes later

With a hotel for the blind 500 yards one way, and the Blind peoples association 500 yards the other why do the pedestrian crossing lights newly put at the Victoria Drive crossing only have a visible sign of the green man and no audible tone? I have enquired at both the establishments I mentioned and they agree this is a problem, in fact many able sighted people are often seen standing and waiting because they too had missed the red man go green.

Please lets make them useful for everyone including those unable to see.

  • Apparently the wonders of technology seem to only complicate things and not make them simple to resolve...

Its because the lights are so advanced apparently that they won't make a bleeping noise for blind people. Not fit for purpose is my view, but its no possible to fix them.

Very nice chap from the council explained the situation, but in the end it seems we've got got we've got, not what the customers would have wanted...

    Surprised? Er... not really
