People urinating and defecating on towpath by bridge 3 of Coventry Canal

Reported anonymously at 15:32, Wed 30 May 2018

Sent to Coventry City Council 3 minutes later

At the bridge 3 Coventry Canal access, on the street path and the towpath, there is often human faeces and parts of the lawn which have been urinated on regularly by mindless people who litter alcohol cans, cigarette butts, lighters, crisp packets, cigarette packets, energy can drinks, beer bottles, etc. The 'Rope' art as part of the Coventry Canal Art Trail is also regularly trashed, with bits being pulled out of it and rubbish being stuffed into nooks and people also can be found sitting on there drinking and littering and sleeping on there following their alcoholic drinking sessions. The Coventry Canal is a part of the city even though the Council have told me they are not responsible for litter along it :( It is a part of the city to be celebrated and protected for its wildlife above everything and also for people to enjoy in a way that doesn't encroach on or bring harm to the living creatures and flora and fauna. Please can the Council take some responsibility and perhaps install some cameras on the nearby billboard to catch these few who ruin what could otherwise be a wonderful habitat and a pleasant walk through the city. As City of Culture, the Council should be recognising the waterways as a positive asset and it needs to be treated as a high priority not as the dumping ground for unwanted clothes, carpets, tyres, cans, bottles, all other sorts of litter you could imagine and some you dare not imagine! Thank you kindly.

Updates

  • Not sure if this is being investigated - have not heard anything from Council. They also do not like to take responsibility for the Canal sometimes, so who knows?!
