No signpost for the path

Reported in the Footpaths/ Rights of way (usually not tarmac) category anonymously at 19:01, Fri 11 May 2018

Sent to Norfolk County Council 4 minutes later. FixMyStreet ref: 1309656.

Aylmerton FP 2, at grid ref TG 1759 4139, crosses a forest track to plunge back into woodland, as opposed to following the track, but there is no indication on the ground, whatsoever, to indicate this fact to the public. There is nothing to assist the public in following the path. The local highway authority is under a duty to erect signage, where needed to assist persons unfamiliar with the locality to follow the route of the path (Countryside Act 1968 Section 27(4)). Whilst the owner or occupier of the land would, as always, need to be consulted, his consent would not be needed, to enable the highway authority to erect a signpost in the path surface here, thanks to the vesting provisions of Section 263 of the Highways Act 1980.
