Need for another 20mph sign

Reported in the Road Traffic Signs and Road Markings category anonymously at 17:02, Friday 13 April 2018 using FixMyStreet Pro

Sent to Oxford City Council and Oxfordshire County Council 3 minutes later. Council ref: 847994.

Dear Officers,

Residents of Fairacres Road have contacted me expressing concern about cars speeding on the road.

They are keen to seen a second 20mph sign installed to remind cars of the need to slow. Given that this road is well used by residents taking children to the local primary school SSMJ they are concerned that this speeding could present a danger.

Your consideration of this request would be much appreciated.

Best wishes, Cllr Helen Evans

Updates

  • Thank you for your enquiry. In order to maintain consistency throughout the country we are required to adhere to standards set down by the Department for Transport in relations to signing and road markings. This includes spacing as well as design. We therefore have to be very careful when considering requests to provide additional signing, since by 'enhancing' one area we would only invite concerns that we are not being consistent with others.

This is a particular issue given the 20mph signs relate to an enforcement activity and would therefore have implications for the police, since any enhancement in one area could be used as a defence to enforcement in another where enhancements had not taken place.

However, I will check the location of the repeaters in the vicinity to ensure that none have gone missing when I am next in the area.

State changed to: No further action
