Road drains blocked as is the footpath

Reported in the Roads/highways category anonymously at 21:01, Sun 31 December 2017

Sent to Hampshire County Council 3 minutes later. FixMyStreet ref: 1170858.

On a337 in the WHOLE of EFFORD between everton & Lymington borders the a337 milford road road drains are blocked or partially blocked. In recent days there has been unnecessary higher volume of pooling water on the tarmac road surface, this is a safety risk to road users. The attached photos prove the drains are blocked. I asked MONTHS AGO for Hampshire county council to sort this & nothing happened. Also the tarmac foot path width has narrowed so dangerously it poses 2 risks to pedestrians: 1) Slip hazard as leaves & pine needles still NOT swept up despite asking a few times 2) The leaves & pine needles is creating extra vegetation on top of tarmac footpath surface & causing pedestrians to WALK CLOSE TO THE ROAD CURB edge, this means people like me have to walk so close to fast moving traffic, that it is likely to lead to a fatality, ie pedestrian slips into the path of traffic. As a local I know the tarmac pavement is WIDE & yet the hampshire county council came along (contractors they hired) cleared the ditch out & dumped the ditch waste on top of the wide pavement surface. Please RESTORE the FULL WIDTH OF THE PATH. Or face possible legal action as the narrow path means disabled people can NO longer us it!

  • I see so many footpaths being neglected these days, some paths a mere 2 feet wide! No joke! keep the roads clear and stuff the pedestrians & cyclists.

  • Really wet this morning (1 Jan 2018) & a car aquaplaned as water on the road cant drain into the roadside ditch via the drains that are blocked. Such a worry as this happened about 8 years ago & a spate of serious crashes happened, then drains cleared & now again the council neglected the drains again. When a crash happens I will inform the vehicle occupant/s that I did report this highway drain problem & council did not do anything & in law should anyone get hurt, then the council cant defend a litigation for excessive road surface water & for the pedestrian path being blocked & slippery as again repeatedly asked council to restore the path & they did nothing

  • The blocked drains evidently causing surface water on the road to stay on the road rather than drain into the drain & ditch, that is a worry due to safety issues ie vehicles slipping on the unnecessary higher amount of surface water. Also a slip hazard are the leaves & pine needles on the near covered tarmac footpath. if anyone is injured, I will have to advise them the council knew about these 2 problems
