Traffic lights don't recognise cyclists.

Sent to Edinburgh City Council 4 minutes later

This seems to be a common problem amongst the newer "intelligent" traffic light systems: they simply don't recognise cyclists.

This makes it a right pain in the arse to cycle home at night, as you need to either wait for a car to be going in the same direction as you or push the pedestrian crossing button and cycle through on a green man.

Whilst trying to turn right out of Salisbury Place I waited at this particular crossing for several minutes on Monday evening before giving up and pushing a pedestrian crossing button. No cars went through in any direction during that time. At one point the north/southbound lights turned from green to red, but they then immediately turned back to green.

The lights should either: * Automatically cycle after one minute of green in any direction. * Turn to flashing ambers in all directions.
