Lights on during the day but not at night hardly in Priory Gardens road

Reported in the Street lighting category by Dave Stephens at 20:27, Thu 2 November 2017

Sent to Kent County Council 2 minutes later. FixMyStreet ref: 1137780.

These lights' timings have been out of kilter for about four weeks. There were thefts from the church and walls on each side of The Priory building this last week during the night, which could very well be blamed on the lack of street lighting that should therefore be treated as a high priority issue rather than put on the back burner as seems to have been the case thus far?

Updates

  • I did some research last night and it seems the timing has shifted way around the clock, so that the lights come on about six in the morning, are on all day then go off sometime late. I was out in the street at about three this morning as the light No NPFF022 outside my bedroom was out, but the unnumbered one outside The Priory front door was on! [Probably the number was stolen?]

  • I had a very interesting chat with Sharon from the Kent County Council who told me that the lights are timed to go off during the night as a cost saving measure but possibly stay on during the day because they are in shady areas and so the light detectors don't work. I must say it seems daft to me, especially as it can't save much money anyway, and there was a robbery at a time when they were off (and presumably known by the thieves). Talk about penny wise, pound foolish! Anyway, Sharon told me that the KCC are in the process of replacing the existing bulbs with LED ones which will save so much money they'll be on all night. Ours may be fixed sometime next year, so please don't tell the local crooks.....
