Unofficial Taxi Rank Blocking Car Park Exit

Reported anonymously at 10:47, Sun 15 October 2017

Sent to Somerset County Council and South Somerset District Council 4 minutes later

On Friday and Saturday Nights the exit lane to Stars Lane car park has become an unofficial taxi rank. Some nights there is not enough room to pass between parked cars in bays and the taxis. Also people who are often drunk walk along the exit path trying to get into the taxis. This is all makes it very difficult and hazardous to get out safely. This has been going on for about a year now and since I have to pay every day to park here for work I'm getting very frustrated. Please can they be moved back to the bottom of South Street again or elsewhere?

  • The council responded very quickly to say the police had asked them to move the rank there. They also said nobody else has reported the issue but my colleagues who also use this car park also find this a problem. I am sure if this was during the daytime the council would be inundated with complaints. But because only a few people exit this late the problem has not been reported until now. As a paying customer of the car park it is very infuriating to give priority consideration to taxi drivers who pay nothing to be there. Sometimes the taxis park with gaps when there are cars parked alongside the exit lane so you can still get out easily but often they don’t which is what is causing the problem. Just a little bit more consideration and we can all use the space safely!
