Dangerous road surface
Reported in the Roads/highways category anonymously at 14:17, Fri 30 April 2010
Sent to Bath and North East Somerset Council 3 minutes later. FixMyStreet ref: 112430.
There is a large dip in the road that could cause problems for motorcyclists or vehicles towing trailers or caravans. This was reported to the highways department last yeat but nothing has happened. It is on a corner just as the speed limit changes from 60 to 40mph.

Hopefully BANES council will not wait for this to cause an accident before fixing the problem. While there may be an underlying problem that could take a while to fix surely it does not take much time or money to level the road surfcae by filling the dip with tarmac.

A similar problem a mile or two away was left unfixed until a trailer became on hooked and cut across the carraigeway so the authoirty responsible have no excuse to ignore this problem; then have seen what can happen.

Not yet fixed but on Friday 30th July 2010 a sign appeared warning of a ramp in the road. The authority responsible is now obviously aware and recognise the hazard posed by this large dip. Let's hope no-one has to die before they find the money to fix it.

How long does it take to put some tarmac down? Not long and at least it would improve the situation before a permeenant repair can be completed. I belive that failing to do this simple temporary repair would still leave the authority responsible for any accident as they have not done what is reasonably practicable to manage the risk.

Obviously B&NES council take no notice of reports on FixMyStreet. Either that or they run the risk of being found grossly negligent if an accident is caused by this road surface. Putting a sign up and leaving it at that is a fig leaf and not evidance that they are seeking to manage the risk. In short I believe they are failing in their duty under the Health & Safety At Work Act 1974.
