Recently filled in trench on the A417 at East Hendred is sinking, leaving an unlevel road surface.
Reported in the Pothole category anonymously at 13:24, Fri 6 October 2017 using FixMyStreet Pro
Sent to Oxfordshire County Council 1 minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 1121120.
A recently dug and refilled trench that stretches the whole width of the road on the A417 between the new housing estate and the East Hendred junction has begun to sink creating a very long rut in the road. At first it was avoidable if you swerved one way or the other of the rut, but now the rut is getting bigger it is now unavoidable.

So, in the meantime my car's suspension continues to get abused. Well thanks a bunch for that!

This road surface was perfect until some buffoon dug it up and subsequently DID NOT fill it back in correctly.
Surely it is reasonable to assume that if someone digs up a road, they then put it back into the same state before they started and not leave a deep rut the full width of the road.

P,s it is only going to get worse. So why wait to put it right?

Traffic lights not configured correctly, so 2 mile tailback from Wantage to Harwell and about a dozen cars queued up going the other way. Please can the light timing match the weight of traffic. So this evening most of the traffic will be going the other way and will need long green duration from Harwell to Wantage to keep things flowing

We will continue to monitor this during our routine inspections. In the mean time the Traffic Lights report is nothing to do with this original enquiry, so please raise a new enquiry regarding the Traffic Lights; assuming there is still a problem with them. Thank you.

Are you BLIND! There is a pothole at the side of the road, as well as the sunken trench that stretches the FULL WIDTH of the road. Does it have to become a sinkhole before considering doing anything about it?

It appears that someone has finally filled in the pothole at the side of the road, but the sunken trench remains. So 50% of the repair has been carried out.

This trench forms part of the electricity supply to the new housing development. It has been backfilled temporarily as works are on-going; it is not a permanent repair. In the meantime we have spoken with the Site Manager who will monitor its condition and it will continue to be 'topped up' until the widening and kerbing works have been completed. A permanent reinstatement of the carriageway will then be made.

At last, a sensible answer instead of the previous weak excuses. Thank you.

The trench isn't being "topped up" as you suggest it would.
