Abandoned road works with traffic lights causing major congestion

Reported in the Roads/highways category anonymously at 19:03, Saturday 16 September 2017

Sent to Bath and North East Somerset Council 1 minute later

Roadworks gave been set up outside the former MOD Warminster Road site that is now being converted to housing. Signs are in place stating that these roadworks will be in place for 10 weeks. There are traffic lights as one lane is blocked. This is causing significant congestion into and out of Bath, as the A36 is a major route. Regular travellers are likely to attempt to use other routes during peak hours, which will cause majors congestion in other places that are unsuitable for heavy traffic. The problem could be significantly reduced by 24/7 working by the contractors. On Saturday morning the site was abandoned and there was standing traffic of at least 1/2 mile trying to get into Bath, and same again coming up the hill. This will become a significant problem once the Bath Christmas Markets start. It is strongly suggested that the Highways Authority and B&NES Council insist that permanent working at the site is invoked until the work is complete.
