Extensive pigeon fouling of the pavement in Chapel Hill tunnel.

Reported in the Other (non-highways) category anonymously at 12:29, Sun 10 September 2017

Sent to Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council and Hampshire County Council 1 minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 1105316.

Excessive amounts of pigeon droppings are building up on the pedestrian walkway underneath Chapel Hill bridge in areas where pigeons are able to perch. Furthermore, water is dripping from a number of locations on the tunnel roof, often coincident with the location of pigeon droppings, onto pedestrians below. As well as looking unsightly this is a potentially serious health hazard since pigeon droppings are known to transmit numerous diseases; the combination of extensive fouling and contaminated water in this case is particularly worrying. Although some bird spikes are already in place there are not enough of them to prevent pigeons from perching in this area. Additional bird spikes should be installed and leaking areas of the tunnel roof should be repaired.
