Currently double yellows, but why not a space?

Reported in the Car parks (only council run ones) category anonymously at 19:44, Fri 8 September 2017

Sent to South Oxfordshire District Council 1 minute later

Park Street is very, very limited on parking. The last section of road on the parked cars' side of the road by The Cross Keys is a double yellow line, but is there a particular reason it cannot be a space? Many thanks.

Updates

  • The formal waiting restrictions that you have referred to are adjacent to a pedestrian crossing point, the yellow lines are there to allow vision both for and of pedestrians crossing the carriageway.
