Beggars all along Station road

Reported anonymously at 08:29, Thu 7 September 2017

Sent to Harrow Borough Council 1 minute later

There has been a huge increase in beggars along Station Road from Harrow Mosque to Tesco, especially on Friday afternoons. I have even seen them approaching cars stopped at the traffic lights by the Mosque and at the cross roads by Tesco on Station Road / Hindes Road. I have even seen police and pcso drive or walk past them without saying a word. They are also a problem outside Debenhams and the pedestrian zone in the town centre.

Updates

  • Drug dealers have moved into the centre of Harrow, due to an increased police presence in Wealdstone High St. You get beggars outside Harrow on the Hill Station. I very rarely go into Harrow now as it has become a complete dump and will become worse once those tower blocks have been built. No wonder there is a lot of property being sold on the Hill, people want out of the area due to all the problems

  • No they haven't. The dealers are still there, the hangers on have been told by the dealers to keep clear so they can carry on dealing with fewer people noticing, you just need to know who they are to spot them. The police presence is still very limited and when I make contact with them they generally tell me 'Yes, we know what they are doing, they are always there'. We were very lucky to have two officers on foot arrive at the start of this week (only after I made a call and not directly to the police either as it's just a waste of time) and some of the vehicles in the Palmerstone Road car park left very quickly after that. As soon as the police go they are back out again though. I watch it all day long.

  • Dear watcher,

A lot have cleared off the Peel Road corner, but as you have pointed out they have moved behind the High St out of sight. Those off licences that are open until the early hours, don't help matters either. They need to introduce a pilot scheme of closing those type of shops at 11:00 pm to see if this improves the High St. Makes you wonder what other produce is being sold in these food and wine places.

Harrow Town centre, really has become abysmall with street beggars.
