Two large potholes
Reported in the Potholes category anonymously at 16:55, Tue 22 August 2017
Sent to West Sussex County Council 5 minutes later. FixMyStreet ref: 1094616.
Where the unmade up Cowdray logging track (to Denyers Cottage) meets Henley Lane there is a large natural lay-by. This is under trees and visibility reduced in strong sunshine so making it a trap for unwary motorists. The lane is single track. There are now two large craters 5" and 4.5" deep eating away at the tarmacadam road and spreading into the roadside hardcore. The lay-by is an integral part of this narrow lane and needs comprehensive filling.
The logging lorries have severely damaged the road margin in Henley Lane especially where they exit and enter to the north on the Fernhurst side.

The potholes were filled today. So that's a month since it was reported, leaving the issue whether the passing place should have been comprehensively repaired by WSCC. The private lane going to Denyers Cottage and the forest belonging to Cowdray is badly damaged where it joins Henley Lane and remains a hazard to the unwary. Whoever is the owner needs to either repair the passing place or erect a Warning Sign stating Potholes/Uneven Surface.
No passing places in Henley Lane are marked by signs. It is all very haphazard and informal. OK in the days of horse and cart but totally unsatisfactory now with the lane a rat run and access to a popular, very busy pub -The Duke of Cumberland.
