Blocked Gulley

Reported in the Roads/highways category by Kenn Winter at 17:05, Mon 24 July 2017

Sent to Kirklees Borough Council 5 minutes later

Hard blocked gulley - on the corner of Elmwood Ave / Highfields Rd, outside House No 2 Elmwood Ave ( - just yards away from the gulley unblocked on 11 July next to Lamp No 4 on Highfields Rd : couldn't adjoining gullies be looked at when doing a job, rather than just I gulley at a time ? ).

  • Too little Gulley emptying in Kirklees yet too much Street sweeping - the wrong priorities for me.

Posted by Kenn Winter at 17:01, Sat 26 August 2017

  • Actually first time anybody has made comment about too much sweeping. However if customer advises of location(s) I will pass this to cleansing. With regards to gully emptying we do rely on requests from the public to log these, so again if customer can give location(s) then I will log these. Thank you for your fix my street request.

We are moving down the route of digital by design where the onus is on customers to create a citizen portal for them to log and track their requests. Therefore from the 1st September 2017 any requests received via fix my street will not be input onto any system for investigation / action. You need to log requests via the Council website for these to be dealt with. Please click on the link below and select the relevant category. However if you do not wish to use the website, then please ring the contact centre on 01484 414700

  • Poor gulley unblocking by Kirklees Council - albeit with 100,000 gullies .

  • The Gulley Unblocking Service has been all but abandoned by Kirklees Council - whilst resources are squandered on mechanically sweeping some streets which do not need it.

  • Months are turning into years now for the tens of thousands of blocked gullies in Kirklees - the Highways Service is no longer fit for purpose. Here are blocked gullies adjoining New North Rd which becomes Halifax Rd which Kirklees Council plans to spend £ 7 million on, widening traffic light junctions - but what about the basics ?

  • Finally Fixed after nearly 9 months - after contacting the man in charge of unblocking Kirklees Council's 50,000 Gullies in the Highways Service . Now for some more !

    State changed to: Fixed
