Overhanging bushes preventing blind lady traveling safely without going on road

Reported in the Trees category anonymously at 10:39, Thu 6 July 2017

Sent to Charnwood Borough Council and Leicestershire County Council 2 minutes later. FixMyStreet ref: 1066880.

Hello, I have been working with a lady who is visually impaired and lives on Shelthorpe Avenue in Loughborough, for over 6 months. I work for Guide Dogs and have been providing training to help her to start traveling independently with her Long Cane in her local area, as she works towards getting a guide dog. The overhanging bushes on the corner in the pictures, area nearly always present; however have got to a point where they are preventing her walking on the pavement so that she now has to step into the road. This is unsafe and un-nerving for her, but she also will soon get a guide dog and this will be even more of an issue. This is because the dog will not see an adequate gap for them to get through on the pavement and will just stop. I believe the hedge belongs to 35 Shelthorpe Avenue; and it would be really helpful if this was cut at least 2ft back as soon as possible. You will see from the pictures that the pavement is made up of paving slabs almost; and these are on a slope, which tips the lady down towards the road whilst she is going around the corner with her Long Cane; so this is already a difficult area of pavement to travel. Any help you could provide ASAP, would be gratefully received. Many thanks Andrea Smethurst Mobility Instructor, Guide Dogs.
