Poorly maintained tarmac - ripped two of my tyres

Reported in the Roads/highways category anonymously at 13:32, Mon 3 July 2017

Sent to Leicestershire County Council 3 minutes later. FixMyStreet ref: 1064994.

I drove down Kirby Lane and had to move off the tarmac to avoid hitting a van coming in the opposite direction. Both of my passenger-side tyres were promptly shredded by the poor condition of the tarmac, costing me £100 for replacements and 3+ hours of my time waiting to be rescued. The road was not big enough to accomodate a car and van to pass safely as seen in my dash cam screenshots.

  • Council investigated, said road deterioration was 'within limits' and effectively rebuked my claim of it shredding two of my tyres because apparently it was my fault for not 'taking consideration of the road conditions'. I've driven down countless country roads across Leicestershire, Lincolnshire, Nottinghamshire and Rutland and never had my tyres shredded. Very unhappy and wondering how many more drivers need to become stranded in the middle of nowhere, wait 3+ hours for rescue and cough up £100 for replacement tyres before the council takes my complaint seriously. I'll certainly never see that money again thanks to them.
