No letdown to cross Settington Avenue for Mobility Chairs
Reported in the Pavements/footpaths category anonymously at 23:00, Sat 20 May 2017
Sent to Medway Council 4 minutes later. FixMyStreet ref: 1040576.
This should be in hand but no urgency seems the thing.Mobility Chair users can not go of normal pavement edges and for some reason Settington Avenue does not have a let down curb despite every other road up Street end Road having one. The disabled person can not go up Settington Avenue most times to the first letdown area because no room is left by parked vehicles so they must retreat back down and cross over at the Street End Junction area. This is a disgrace I witness often. If I might suggest, a scheme of marking pavement areas where this problem exists regarding obstruction with a line giving clearance for Wheelchair /Double width pushchairs etc would be looked at as a norm to identify bad parking.I understand why pavement parking is needed now but I do not understand why pavements are not properly policed for pedestrian safety anymore. Please do not say money and budget cuts.

I have spoken to the person responsible in putting this order through and am told this will be done but no date given. This is important still and 3 mobility chair people have been told so far about this hopeful improvement they can expect. The vehicles shown have been reported asking for more room for disabled etc but the department dealing with this do not seem to give feedback and I think nothing has been done. Weekend's are a bad time for this problem..

Constant bad parking on pavements in this area make life difficult for disabled in particular. I got back to the person who I thought said it would be done in 3 weeks but now says it will get done but later than that ? I spoke to the refuse collecters driver as they have had trouble getting through also and was told despite complaints to the council were told the council could do nothing. In both cases this is obstruction both of the highway and pavement and is a police matter surely.??

Work is now in progress installing the letdown of the kerbs although at present there is a hold up for some reason halfway through the work. Weather perhaps? Well done to the man who dealt with this problem.

It took a little longer than expected but my contact with the council who actually put in the order (DT) should be praised for understanding the real need here for this to be done.
