Cars parking on corners other makes it dangerous for other drivers

Reported in the Car parking category anonymously at 16:50, Thu 30 March 2017

Sent to Surrey Heath Borough Council 5 minutes later

People park on the corner of moorlands road/Surrey avenue. This makes it very difficult for people trying to turn in/out of the junction. Several near misses a day.

  • Dear Anon, Thank you for your message. Whilst the vehicles are parked on the pavement and corner near a junction, the local authority currently has no legal powers to enforce either issue. The Council is only able to enforce restrictions that have a relevant Traffic Regulation Order (TRO) in place which usually will have a restriction marked on the road whether that be Single or Double Yellow Line, Bus Stop or disabled bay. We also have the authority to issue a Penalty Charge Notice to vehicles that park over dropped kerbs or driveways but only when reported by the resident of that property that the driveway serves. Under present legislation the only authority that can issue a Notice/fine to a vehicle as the ones you have identified are the Police. Whilst they too suffer from limited resources as I'm sure you'll be aware, you can report this to them on the non-emergency number of 101 however it is important that you state to them that there are no marked restrictions on the road as they will undoubtedly, incorrectly, advise it is a Council issue. National government is currently reviewing the option to give local authorities this legal power but at present that just isn't the case. Thank you for your understanding, Kind Regards, Parking Services @ Surrey Heath Borough Council.
