"Slow" marking on road has faded/been resurfaced

Reported via desktop in the Road Markings category anonymously at 11:28, Wednesday 26 August 2026 using FixMyStreet Pro

Sent to Oxfordshire County Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 10005493.

As cars descend Kidmore End Road into Reading there is no warning that the speed limit they are entering is 30mph until they reach the corner adjacent to 164 Kidmore End Road. This is because the speed limit sign post is not visible coming down the hill and the red 'slow' markings painted on the road many years ago are no longer visible - see photo. There have been numerous accidents on this corner and the occurrences are increasing due to extra traffic, probably as a result of the new housing estate on the Reading Golf Course. Please can you review the speed limit on the S. Oxon side as you enter Reading - currently national speed limit(!) - the increased foot-fall from pedestrians, horses, cars and even now a bus-route make this corner perilous as this is a single-carriageway lane for the most part. There have been several instances of cars losing control and crashing through the hedge - one car managed to roll onto its roof, and a cyclist lost control on the corner and was in hospital for a number of weeks.

  • Thank you for your report. The Slow markings have been added to our list of potential sites to refresh when budget allows. For the terminal speed limit signs and associated markings, please contact Reading Council. Our team have investigated the recorded injury collisions in the area, and are pleased to say there have not been any in the past five years. Therefore, it is not a road which is currently being looked at for any speed limit reduction.
