Traffic lights do not detect a cyclist stopped in the ASL on University Road

Reported anonymously at 23:08, Mon 13 October 2014

The traffic lights at the University Road/Burgess Road junction do not detect a cyclist stopped in the ASL on University Road. This means that unless the cyclist wants to wait a long time (a very long time at night, sometimes in excess of five light cycles), hoping that a car comes up behind them going the same direction, they either have to jump the red light or dismount and walk across to where they want to go. Currently, the failure of the light to detect cyclists is encouraging cyclists to jump the red during the pedestrian crossing phase - I have seen several cyclists almost hit pedestrians who were expecting it to be safe to cross.
