The surface of the bridge has been damaged by a large vehicle/lorry. Residents have reported seeing HS2 related lorries using the bridge on the afternoon of 26 July and damage to the bridge was discovered at that time.

Reported anonymously at 10:50, Thu 28 July 2022

The surface of the road has come away and makes for difficult crossing on an already small bridge. Vehicles are required to cross the bridge slowly at the best of times to ensure safe crossing, but a damaged road surface makes this even more difficult. The road is used regularly by cars and pedestrians accessing the small hamlet, as well as farm vehicles, and frequent visitors to the hotel and spa. Seasoned users cross the bridge with care but several people who reside in the area have reported seeing HS2 traffic crossing the bridge in the days preceding the damage, and on the afternoon when the damage occurred.
