Very bad surface

Reported anonymously at 14:37, Saturday 7 August 2021

The entire length of the outside / overtaking lane in BOTH directions between Junction 5 Southampton Airport and Jn 7 Hedge End consists of very badly laid concrete. In some places it covers just half of the lane and in others it is the complete width. This appears to have been laid following replacement of central barriers as part of so-called Smart upgrade. This surface is dangerous even at the required 50 mph, causing vehicle to bump and vibrate and tyres to jump and swerve uncontrollably. I hate to think what will happen when 70mph is reinstated. This needs URGENT attention and repair. Apart from this, the concrete on the other lanes, is, and always has been, totally unsatisfactory. Please advise what you intend to do about both these issues, particularly the outside lanes.
