Vegetation overgrown on footpath and obscuring road traffic sign

Reported anonymously at 16:11, Sat 17 October 2020

Vegetation has reduced the pavement alongside the A29 Fontwell Avenue to approx 60cm wide. It is extremely dangerous walking along this path as buses, articulated lorries and fast traffic passes you at 50 to 60mph, when you are virtually balancing along the kerb stones. This narrowed pathway starts at the marker on the map provided and continues past Claremont Care Home and also a private bungalow, Park View. The photos provided show how narrow this pavement is, which is used by school children, the elderly, dog walkers and parents’ with pushchairs. Also the two 40mph road signs, again positioned where the marker is on the provided map, need to be seen. Branches are obscuring the signs, as shown in the photo provided. As you drive along Fontwell Avenue you cannot see that you are entering a 40mph limit. Consequently, the traffic continues at 50-60mph which makes it extremely difficult and dangerous to cross the road. Please can you clear the paths so they are at their proper width and also cut back the obscuring branches from the road traffic signs. I look forward to this work being carried out ASAP.
