Markings for pedestrian crossing at junction confuse some traffic

Reported anonymously at 18:18, Sun 29 July 2018

Pedestrian crossing of Clifton road at this junction is dangerous for pedestrians. It's a very wide crossing build to aid buses and coaches which has the unfortunate effect of making it harder for pedestrians by having no central island. Traffic turning from Clifton Road into Railway Terrace is particularly a risk for pedestrians. When in the red phase for traffic and green for pedestrians, right turning traffic still often crosses the worn out stop line to wait in the small turning lane immediately next to the traffic light to wait for the green arrow. We have had the near miss experience crossing this and when sitting in the nearby cafe have seen this happen to others. Can improvement to the safety be made?
