Recycling trucks ruining grass

Reported anonymously at 16:41, Tue 20 April 2010

Throughout 2008 I had a long running email exchange with VoWHDC about refuse and recycling trucks running over wet grass on the 'roundabout with trees' in Wick Close Abingdon. The result: no change, mud everywhere. The photo shows how it was in early 2008. It's worse now and I had given up until I discovered FixMyStreet, so here's hoping something will get done this time! There are two problems and perhaps a solution. Problem 1 - there are too many cars in the close and so people have to park around the west side bend so the refuse trucks cannot get through but - by 8AM or so - most of the cars have gone. Problem 2 - the contractors were asked (by the VoWHDC rep) to schedule Wick Close at the end of their run eg. 9-9.30AM but they usually ignore that request. A solution? - if there is no way of getting the truck drivers to come later (and seems there is not), then please consider fitting some grass/concrete slabs on the roundabout like those used very effectively for a similar problem at the Leisure and Tennis Centre in Abingdon. They look a lot more attractive than mud, with grass growing in the squares, and they seem to be able to take the weight of lorries. Would really appareciate a solution to this issue that has been rumbling on for more than 2 years! Thank you.
