I've noticed this flooding myself. The manhole is built on an old culvert. I imagine there is a defect on it further downstream causing it to back-up. I assume it runs through the gardens of the houses on Stockport Road? I'd have a word with your neighbours and check some old maps and find the route. Hope that helps.
