I am mailing to complain about the state of the byway that leads to my house- lelant house, nancekuke, redruth, cornwall, TR16 4HX. The road is now in such a state that the pot holes are now 12 feet across and 2 feet deep and full of water. The road is now impassable- only four wheel drive vehicles can access our road. I drive a passat estate which is being gradually destroyed by the road by being grounded every time i drive up and down.I have already broken the steering rack of a volvo by driving up the road. We have contacted the county council who have sent an inspector to see the road. They agreed that it was in a very poor state but said they had no money to repair the road. I find this to be unacceptable. The road is regularly used by walkers and is dangerous. Some of the puddles are so deep that they represent a drowning risk to small children. I recently had a firearms inspector around from the police - she was shocked and unable to get to our house in her police vehicle since it could not get down the road. I had to pick her up at the end of the lane and drive her down to our house. We are not the only residents who use the lane- there are two other houses down here. The road is regularly used by farm traffic and horses. It was repaired some years ago now- gravel was tipped into the huge pot holes and left. Over time the gravel has been gradually scooped out of the pot holes and moved to the edges making them even deeper with a large lip of gravel around them. This temporary repair did not last more than a few weeks. I have attached a photot for you to see the state of the road- it doesn't do it justice really.
