Footpath - Melvin Way to Saffron Road Histon

Reported in the Pavements/footpaths category by Dennis Harris at 10:45, Tuesday 9 February 2010
Sent to Cambridgeshire County Council 4 minutes later

This pathway has deteriorated over the years to the extent that it is now, at least for one section of it, unpleasant to use. The length that passes through the small copse by St Audreys Close is a quagmire and two small sections at either end of it are in need of surfacing. This pathway is well used, it is a popular route for schoolchildren and provides a traffic free route to the infants schools.

The condition of this pathway deteriorated still further during heavy rain with a large puddle completely blocking entry to the small copse, however the recent dry spell has dried up the puddle/mud and the pathway is now usable again. I did receive a phone call from a very helpful and understanding lady from the council in response to this report and she said that there are plans to upgrade this pathway, making it wider to accommodate both cyclists and pedestrians. However it apparently depends on available funding being used by the end of the financial year (April) and they were having difficulty locating landowners to get the necessary permissions to proceed. We can only hope that this materialises, but time is fast running out and it looks unlikely.
