Please can you arrange for the following to be fixed. The new railway car park information sidn at the junction of Huddersfield Road and Birds Royd Lane. The sign obscures the red traffic light when approaching from Brighouse, its very large for the location perhaps it could be replaced with a smaller sign or relocated. Thank you

Dear Sir On 3/2/10 you reported about the new sign for the railway, which has been erected on Huddersfield Road Brighouse by the traffic lights – the location was decided by the Traffic section and although the sign does obscure the red light briefly but as you approach it nearer you can see the signal head and you can also see the one on the opposite side – the traffic section decided that this was the best place for the sign but will monitor it – the traffic engineer was Mr Bryn Buck 01422 392162 Regards Janet Hodson Assistant Street Lighting Asset Manager Calderdale Metropolitan Borough Council Economy and Environment Highways and Engineering Huddersfield Road Elland HX5 9JR
It's certainly coming to something when a car park sign takes priority over a red light is it not? First time the bulb on the other side of the road is blown and the red does not like, a car goes through, accident happens and driver(s) get blamed. All because the Council Traffic Dept decided it was ok to obscured a traffic signal, rather than et a smaller sign...Typical!!
The council are aware they got it wrong but are not prepared to move the offending sign only monitor the situation. i.e. wait for an accident !. The railway car park information sign for traffic coming from the Huddersfield direction is also located in the wrong place, its behind a tree, when spring comes it will not be visible.
The signs are located where they are because of the presence of underground services which make it difficult to site sign poles in the ground.
There is adequate visibility for drivers approaching the signal on Huddersfield Road.
A failed signal aspect is nothing to do with the signs in question - that is a seperate fault that should be logged with Leeds City Council UTC.
The northbound sign on the right hand side is there to avoid the need to drill through a solid concrete bridge deck. The vegetation will be trimmed back to avoid obscuring the sign.
Sign placement is not done to endanger road users, and these signs comply with all relevant guidance. The size of the sign is appropriate for the standard of road and speed of traffic.
As previously stated, the signs are being monitored. If there are any serious road safety problems brought about by their presence (not perceived ones) then they will be re-sited.
All the lights are obscured from the Brighouse direction when the trucks exiting from Birds Royd Lane turning right block the junction. But as the man in charge of the scheme has duly put me in my place what do I know about the placement of signs.
Red light still obscured when approaching from Brighouse
the road safety at this junction is still being compromised for the sake of a railway car park sign
