Litter on Canal Towpath Bingley - Saltaire

There is a large amoutn of litter on both sides of the Canal Towpath between Bingley and Hirstwood bridge. A lot of the litter is in the undergrowth and I stress this is a problem and a real eyesore on BOTH sides of the canal not just on the towpath side. It could do with cleaning up properly. Most of the litter is not actually on the British waterways footpath but is in the council owned surrounding vegetation.

The council said it was a British Waterways issue and British Waterways said it was beyond their scope or power to clear it up. Basically the Council wont even clear up whats on the land SURROUNDING the Canal - all they are prepared to do is clear access points to the Canal. Also if litter is actually IN the undergrowth they just leave it there. All in all really disapointing and after 4 weeks the whole mess still remains. The council should be ashamed of themselves and have failed to reply to my last two Emails. TWO sofas are still sitting flytipped on Council OWNED land along with enough litter to fill a skip. It seems its a complete waste of time even trying to get this cleared up.
