Field Lane, Heslington
Reported in the Potholes category anonymously at 15:45, Fri 22 January 2010
Sent to City of York Council 4 minutes later
Direct reports have been made to CYC regarding vibrations occurring in adjacent properties when heavy vehicles travelling towards Heslington drive over a series of potholes and very old heavy patching between lampposts 28 and 29. The complaint has not resulted in any adequate action being taken, or planned, to alleviate the situation. The vibrations are caused by the many buses (10 per hour each way) and frequent HGV's that use the road. Damage is now being incurred in at least one property because of them.

Updates
Potholes filled in in a very rough and ready manner on 3/2/10. It's not clear whether CYC Highways were responding to the original complaint or because a CYC Drainage gang working nearby on 2/2/10 drew attention to the very bad condition of the road. Even after the potholes have been filled in the road surface is still in a poor condition with corrugations and ruts.
The Highways Department of York City Council has repaired potholes at this location twice between Christmas 2009 and early February 2010. The quality of the repairs has been so poor that passing traffic is ripping out the tarmac where the repairs were undertaken and causing new potholes as well as enlarging those that were not dealt with on previous occasions. Vibrations are still being noticed in adjacent properties. No one from York City Council has made any attempt to contact householders with regard to assessing the situation on site.
Highways Department arrived on site on 27/2/09 and filled in those potholes that were both large and deep. Potholes that were large and relatively shallow or deep and smallish were not dealt with. Road surface is badly corrugated and considerable "axle-hopping" is occurring when vehicles towing trailers pass over the defective area. Proper repairs capable of coping with heavy traffic on a long-term basis are required if the need for further short-term patching and filling is to be avoided.
