Rubbish in Street and Garden / Speed Ramps

Dear Sir / Madam,

I am contacting you to complain about the amount of rubbish on the streets and more importantly in my garden on Lipson Road.

I live at 6 Lipson Villas and I have been renting the property for over 8 months now. I am totally fed up of all the lay abouts in the area chucking their rubbish in the street which results in most of it blowing into my front garden. I have lost count of the amount of times I have had clean up someone else's filth from my front garden just to make my house presentable to visitors etc.

I noticed a council employee litter picking by the shop in Hesters Way a couple of weeks ago when I left to go to work. I thought when I got home the problem would have been somewhere near rectified but no. As a council tax payer I find it disgusting that there are A) No bins on Lipson Road for the pond life to put their litter in. And B) No speed ramps on Lipson Road to stop nut cases from killing a child as cars regularly speed up and down the Avenue. I believe that my Council tax contributions alone would cover both of these points and for no one to notice the problem amazes me. Please be assured that if this problem is not sorted then I may be forced to stop paying for a Council that does nothing for my other than collect my bin each Tuesday.!

Regards

R Jones

Just to confirm that we litter pick the area around Lipson Road on a Wednesday, I will look at the possibility of putting in a bin later in the financial year.

Thank you for your update. Just to confirm I live at 6 Lipson Villas and although I will not be in when your litter pickers are in the area on Wednesday please feel free to clear up the litter on my garden. Your staff will see that because I have an iron fence and hedging in front of my property all the litter blows down the street and stops in front of my house.! I would appreciate it if this could be rectified.

Many Thanks

As expected.. No change.. My garden and the street remain littered to an unacceptable state. I did not see any litterpickers in my area on any Wednesday since my original contact so Cheltenham Council are not people who keep there word. Council tax is a joke.!!

I think you are being a bit unfair on the council here R Jones.

Your council provides a lot of services which I think a lot of people forget about.

Planning, social services, schools, not just your bin collection, but clean streets everywhere. Cleaning the town centres, community projects, paving, roads, parks, tree issues, benefits, environmental health, some money from council tax goes towards the fire brigade and policing etc etc.

You say they only thing they do for you is collect your bin, but most people forget about everything else they do.

They can't be responsible for people littering, it's sad that today people fly tip and litter a lot, the council do try and clean it up, but unless you want to pay £200 a month then they can't afford to have somebody picking litter in your area every day.

I don't think I'm being unfair at all. I think that your response clearly points out what we ARE NOT getting for our council tax. So we had some men around to pollard the trees in our road last week. Surely this is not more of a priority than the state the roads are in for example.

It is sad that people find the need to fly tip and litter the area but my point is simply don't make promises you cannot keep. Your last update on the 24th November (yes 3 months ago!) clearly states that litter collectors are in the area every Wednesday. That has not been happening, certainly not in Lipson Road. At no point did I ask you to litter pick every day.

Just to add a tip maybe you should up the Co-Ops Council Tax as it is clear that 90% of the rubbish originates from there. If they don't provide adequate litter bins then perhaps there Council Tax contributions should.
