Getting the street cleaned

Reported in the Street cleansing category by B. Prescott at 01:08, Fri 6 November 2009
Sent to Brighton and Hove City Council 2 minutes later

We have been unable to get the Council to sweep our street for the last 10 years. We have to ring and complain and then they send a man to sweep then nothing until we ring and complain again. Totally useless Council. Take the Council Tax and do nothing. City Clean in Brighton and Hove is run by useless Managers, full of excuses but no action. The men/women who do the actual work - cleaning - are great.

Totally agree with you here. CityClean are a joke and my road is also a complete mess all the time.

Finally got a reply from City Clean - message sent 9th Nov - reply 23rd Nov. Totally useless reply - promised nothing but the same old typical political answer. Why reply telling me what they are responsible for, I know they are responsible for cleaning the street, or do they think we are all as thick as them? The biggest joke is the statement "We regularly monitor the areas to ensure they are cleansed to a good standard". Well I don't call not cleaning for 3 months "a good standard" - and only cleaned because I complained. The only streets cleaned are in and around the Town Halls were Council workers have the benefit. Not the Council Tax payers homes. We are the bottom of the pile and totally disregarded. I think all the Managers of City Clean need to be sacked and someone with management skills employed. Managers are just sitting on the benefits and pension they collect from working in the Council. They are unfit for purpose. Here is the full email reply from City Clean. "Cityclean are responsible for the cleansing of the public highway and the type and frequency of cleansing will vary depending on the location. City centre areas where most litter is generated are swept frequently, with many streets receiving daily attention. Streets outside the city centre are also cleaned regularly. We regularly monitor the areas to ensure they are cleansed to a good standard. We also jet-wash problem streets on a periodic basis. I can confirm that Conway Street is on the schedule for street cleaning and is regularly cleaned by are street cleaning team. However this has been brought to the operations managers attention and will be monitored."
