Millennium Clock Date: 2 November 2009
The fate of the much loved Millennium Clock has been decided.
The clock, which used to stand outside Marks and Spencer, was taken down during the High Street improvements and placed in storage. After much debate the Highways Panel have met and unanimously agreed to reinstate the Millennium Clock back on the High Street, outside Superdrug.
Chairman of the Highways Localism Panel, Cllr. Lionel Lee said, “We were always looking to bring the clock back. It was just a question of where and after listening to the residents of the Borough, it was clear that they would like to see the Millennium Clock back on the High Street.
“The Council understands the public concern about the storage of the clock, but I can reassure you that it is perfectly safe. The clock is designed to be out in all weathers so it will certainly feel no ill effect of being kept outside.”
Further details of when the clock will be reinstated will be decided at a future panel.
