Disabled access urgent road markings needed

UGENT ROAD MARKINGS NEEDED FOR DISABLED ACCESS AND SAFETY: Along Marine Parade CO12 3RE there are 3 drop curbs situated on the sea front side of the path quite a distance apart from each other. These access ways are always being parked in front of. These curbs are used for wheelchair users and the elderly on motability scooters. These are not marked with road markings and need red lines painted on the road to stop all vehicles parking in these access areas. My father is disabled and drives a motability scooter and a vehicle drove in front of him the other day and parked at the drop down curb he was driving towards, this was very distressing as the next drop down curb is hundreds of metres away and would not have been safe to cross at and also very dangerous, he would have needed to drive on the wrong side of the road to get to this point. These curbs should be marked with the appropriate markings and never obstructed as these are used by the elderly on motability scooters and wheelchairs users. Vehicles should be banned altogether on these drop down curbs for safety and accessibility.

Updates

  • You dont need markings. It is an offence to park over a dropped kerb and ECC have given the powers to the district council to enforce this offence. There are no legally enforceable road markings to denote dropped kerbs, especially red???

  • I received a very quick response to the query I posted on your site. I was impressed by the speed of the response. I do not believe that the outcome has happened yet, but I will check regularly and contact the council if neccessary.
