Dangerouus road junction for pedestrians

Reported in the Pavements/footpaths category by carol knight at 18:57, Sat 22 August 2009
Sent to Coventry City Council 3 minutes later

Lawley close is a cul de sac of houses,a block of apartments and the entry to the local woods.

Residents include young children and elderly. The close is particularly busy at either end of the school day with youngsters using the woods to get to/from school and parents taking toddlers to the nursery a few doors from the junction.

There is no pavement at all (on either side of Lawley Close) on the junction to Jobs lane which is a very busy road running parallel to the A45.

The pavement from the entry to the apartments towards Jobs Lane is in a shocking state of repair (tree roots) and stops some distance from the junction. The other side of the road is waste ground which appears to have been adopted as a flower bed with rotting carpet underlay fortunately now breaking down having been an eyesore for several years. It is impossible for anyone to walk on that side of the road. All pedestrians including passers by on that side of Jobs Lane have to stand in the road to negioate the junction. Many people taking children to school/nursery have pushchairs.

I have personally reported this to the council and neighbourhood officer. To date (5 months) I have received no response apart from assurances I will, from said neighbourhood officer.

Best regards Carol Knight

My father is elderly, completely blind and unable to negotiate the junction.

Some of the paths in the wood are maintained to a high standard.

I received a telephone call from the council acknowledging the pavement at this junction is inadequate and would be dealt with.

I emailed the person at the council 12 days ago asking for update and am currently awaiting a response.

The council will not put in a pavement less than 1.2 metres wide. I am advised they own the verge on only one side of the road so they will not straighten the junction. We all must continue to stand in the road. Fixmy street sent an email to all three of my councillors. Not one had the courtesy to send an acknowledgement. After this length of time I doubt there will ever be a response from them. especially as at the time the email went their party leaders was claiming theircouncillors would communicate with the electorate.
