Fire prevention and public safety

Reported by David Fisk at 10:16, Sun 19 July 2009
Sent to Suffolk County Council and Babergh District Council 4 minutes later

17 residential houses back onto the land which is off factory lane brantham and thought to be in hands of liquidators. Babergh Council has an interest as last year it held public meetings relevant to the future of the land. This land is seriously overgrown with all manner of vegetation to a height well above the six feet fencing at the rear of the houses. The under growth is tinder dry on hot days. Given a discarded lighted cigarette or a match and the prevailing SW wind all the properties and the occupants could be in serious danger substantial power lines are immediately above the the land and could be destroyed. I have written to Babergh who advise I contact the Liquidators, Hardly my job. I thought all Councils have a public duty to protect life and property. I am reporting a danger to others, not to me, that should fulfill my duty I will ring the fire service but I feel the local council should be involved.

Updates

to date the only response has been from the fire service who sent me an email to the effect that an officer would assess the risk but nothing has been heard from them or the council since. The email is dated 22 july. I requested an update from the fire service but have not received any reply. A typical response from the authorities
