Parking on pavements

The car parking on the pavement from the building site at the bottom of Gilbert Road up to beyond the busstop on the left side going up Gilbert Road is a menace and getting worse. Not only do cars park in the cycleway, but increasingly on the pavement making visibility for cars pulling out of their own driveways impossible. How long will this go on before one of the schoolchildren or other person is injured.
I think that cars should not be allowed to park on pavements and that pavements should go back to being for pedestrian use only and if the width of the pavements was reduced back to the original size, cycle ways could be doubled in width allowing to 2-way cycle traffic along them. This would be better for everyone.
Cyclists, myself included, are often loathe to cycle along the main roadways because this so often means going well out of their way because of the same restrictions as cars applying in most cases. We should adopt a more Dutch-type model for cycleways here. Then, more cyclists would use them and cars, bikes and pedestrians would all have their own space.

no response whatsoever. I have lived in this street since 1988 and have reported this and issues of littering and vandalism to trees. Nothing ever gets done. There are no litter bins except outside Chesterton School where they are probably only just beginning to eat and so drop the litter well beyond it.
I no longer enjoy living in Gilbert road for all the stated reasons and the Lib Dems do nothing and we never see or hear from the Conservatives.
It is evening now so there are very few cars parked and so not worth another photo, but during the day it is a nightmare. What is the point of cycle lanes and pavements if they are all used by everything?
The problem has not been fixed and it is getting worse. My husband and I once saw a parking warden putting fixed penalty notices on the cars parked on the pavement, but only once.
Driving out of my drive today, it was simply impossible to see if anything was approaching to my right up Gilbert Road as there were cars parked both on the pavement and in the cycle lane all the way up. The problem is made worse by the fact that of course they are not parked in a straight line, but some further in, some further out, so making it impossible to see round them into the road for on-coming traffic.
The problem has not been fixed and it is getting worse every week.
so far the problem has not been fixed at all. It is getting worse.
I am not sure if there is any point in doing this as nothing changes and if the council is not informed, then who is supposed to fix it.
The problem is compounded in the Winter when cars parked along the pavement outer edge force pedestrians either to walk through all the puddles, leaves and general mess that gathers in the centre area along the pavement, or to walk round the cars into the cycle lane, thereby forcing the cyclists into the road.
Please tell me who you imagine is going to fix this if the council are not passed these complaints?
Hi Max, thanks for that but there is another issue that I forgot about. With cars parked on the pavement, the sweepers are totally unable to sweep the pavements. It is also very hazardous pulling out from our drives with cars coming up the road that you cannot see because of the parked cars, and cyclists coming down the pavement, cycling close to our entrances, again due to parked cars, and we cannot see them as we pull out until almost on top of them.
The problem of blocked drains has gone on and on. Many of the front gardens flood during heavy rain. I think the contractors at the Nursing Home did a very good job of their entrance. The pavement issues go back a long way, but it was not so bad when cars were not parked there because pedestrians and cyclists could move around the puddles and mess, and of course, there was not a visibility issue. This problem has not been fixed. The road layout is inappropriate and dangerous. I would recommend all cyclists to do what I do - where there is a car parked in the cycle lane, cycle out into the main lane very early before passing it, so that cars behind aren't surprised by you darting around it.
Again, no change here. I have emailed both Max Boyce and David Howarth and only Max Boyce eventually responded saying he would look into it and since then, ages ago, nothing. Here are some later pictures showing the problem compounding bad weather when cars are parked all over the pavement. Pedestrians are forced to either wade through the puddles or walk round the parked cars into the cycle lane, forcing any cyclists into the traffic lane.
