Dangerous bike/footpath
Reported in the Pavements/footpaths category anonymously at 11:17, Wed 13 May 2009
Sent to Merton Council 3 minutes later. FixMyStreet ref: 57787.
At the closed end of Manship Road the cycle track/ footpath is used constantly by vehicles turning. The danger is that a cyclist turning the corner from Carlingford Gardens is unsighted and could collide with a vehicle backing up at speed. Likewise pedestrians are in some danger.I have seen several "near misses". There used to be a bollard where the path re-joins the road, which did go some way to avoiding the situation. However it had to be replaced so often (having been knocked over) that the council finally took it away altogether, leaving a clear run for careless drivers. Perhaps the cycle track could be diverted to continue to share the footpath to the end of the Marsh? Sooner or later there will be in jury to a walker, cyclist or dog!

It seems the council would rather someone was injured (or worse)and pay out compensation, than spend a few pounds now replacing the bollard. A heftier one might overcome the need to keep replacing it.
