Dangerous road surface

Reported in the Potholes category anonymously at 23:46, Sun 10 May 2009
Sent to Angus Council 4 minutes later

Ferry Road Monifieth has deteriorated to the point of being very unsafe for motorcyclists and car drivers. In the case of my motorbike, the front forks bottom and I am thrown off course. Just walking along the footpath today, I have collected 5 broken car springs from the gutter between Panmurefield road and Grange road traffic lights. It is no longer possible to snake in and out of the potholes caused by the top surface layer of tarmac pulling out of the road surface and bad patching. The section of road by Grange road traffic lights and the length of road from just before the river bridge towards Panmurefield road junction is particularly bad. The road is damaging cars because my sons Saxo is about to have a lower wishbone replaced no doubt due to the road shocks imposed on the car.

This road is a main ‘A’ road and should be of good condition considering it is an arterial coast route. It is particularly annoying because many side roads such as such as those off Panmurefield rd have been resurfaced within the past few years then had road humps fitted or 20mph speed limits imposed. When will Angus council arrange satisfactory repairs and I wonder when the road was last inspected ?

A 20 mph road (Panmurefield road) has been patched yet the main Ferry road is still with a lifting road surface.

A man turned up at lunchtime on the 27th May in a white pick-up and proceeded to fill ONE of the smaller holes with tarmac and hand tamper.

Can this be real !!

Enquired re non progress on the 7th June direct to the council using the reference number they had sent me. I had a reply today to say the matter had been passed back to the roads division and they will contact me direct.

Interested to keep track of this problem. I've left Dundee now but my family home is on Dalhousie Road. When we were driving along that stretch of road I commented to my family that Monifieth's roads were like a farm track now. It's a bit embarrassing that such a main road has been allowed to deteriorate to this state.

Hi Steven, you are right it is an embarrassment. One day the roads department will eventually reply to me and let me know what they intend to do.

I had an email from the roads dept to say the road was to be earmarked for a major refurbishment during Aug but a later enquiry to the council indicates it will be October.
