Stopping on zig zags
Reported in the Roads/highways category anonymously at 10:50, Tue 5 May 2009
Sent to Calderdale Borough Council 4 minutes later
Persistent offenders stopping to drop their children off, on zig zags outside St. Joseph's school Hove edge during morning, lunch time and afternoon pick up times. This combined with speeding inconsiderate drivers makes crossing very dangerous. Please can you arrange for the parking attendants to attend again and start issuing tickets. Then perhaps these drivers will get the message if it cost them money, and finkil street will be safer to cross

Parking Services has the responsibility of enforcing parking restrictions on 1200 streets throughout Calderdale, within Calderdale there are also nearly 200 schools.
Due to current resources we are unable to visit every school on a daily basis, however, we do try and visit as many as possible and St Joseph's along with the schools in close proximity to this are on our main list of schools which have parking problems.
I note your comments regarding the Officers, however , unfortunately they do not have the power to stop vehicles, only to issue Penalty Charge Notices. We find that as many of the drivers are still in the vehicle at the time the Officer approaches they then drive away before the Officer has had the chance to issue a Charge. To try and avoid this, We do try and work with the Police as often as we can , they will then make any vehicle attempting to drive away stop whilst the Civil Enforcement Officer issues them with a Charge.
I understand that this can be frustrating for parents and also the residents of the surrounding areas as vehicles do seem to get parked anywhere in order to get as close to the school as possible even if this involves causing a safety hazard for the children trying to get to and from school and having to cross the road in between parked cars.
Our Enforcement team is due to be outsourced next month this will mean that there will be more resources available soon , which should then lead to more frequent visits to this area and other problem areas which will hopefully alleviate some of the problems you have experienced.
I hope this has answered some of your queries, however if you want to contact me or the team further regarding this or any other issue please do not hesitate.
Yours Sincerely
Jenny Dixon
