Bins on the paths

I used FixMyStreet to report a broken street sign recently and the response from City of York Council was superb.

I have been trying for years to get the Council to instruct the refuse collectors to replace the bins where they find them without success so I thought I would have a go through FixMyStreet.

We house-holders are required to place the bins in a very precise position and facing the right way otherwise we run the risk of not having them emptied but it would appear that the collectors are not under any obligation to do anything other than leave them in the middle of the fottpath as they 'run' to keep up with the refuse lorry.

They used to leave mine not only in the middle of the footpath but also in the middle of my drive entrance so, when I came home, I had to park on a dangerous corner while I moved the bin. They do the round the other way now so my bin ends up in the middle of the footpath several yards down from my frive entrance. Perhaps I should be thankful for small mercies.

Please treat this request 'sensitively', I heard a report from another town on the radio the other day where someone who complained about the 'refuse operatives' had nasty messages put through his letter box. Shades of Lonnie Donnegan and My Old Man's a Dustman if you're old enough to remember that.
