Rear wall rebuild

Reported by Lyn Woodcraft at 12:24, Tue 12 June 2007
Sent to Lambeth Borough Council 1 minute later

The wall dividing Wilkinson St. north side gardens and the South Lambeth Estate has been agreed to be in a dangerous condition, and scaffolding has been erected. I have been waiting for over three months for the paperwork I am assured will be delivered to residents advising them of the rebuilding of the party wall. In the meanwhile I am unable to do the work I have commissioned in my garden.

Although the problem isn't yet fixed, some progress has been made. progress has been made. The council are getting tenders to do the work. Thank you very much for helping make this happen.

Council gave a timetable which they didn n't meet. When asked why they passed it on to another dept. They met on Sept 4th and I am still waiting for outcome. Meanwhile wall is still dangerous. They are lucky to get through school holidays without a tragedy.

The council are passing this back and forth between departments and getting nowhere. Yes, I have spoken to my councilllor and nothing has happened. They are just telling me lies, or ignoring me. I suppose I have to take legal action which will cost me hard earned money. Just like the noise from the Victoria Line doesn't get fixed. I'm fed up with them all.

I have had 26 different promises of dates for action. since 23/7 Nothing has happened except further burglaries due to condition of wall. Council time spent by at least 11 officials must outweigh cost of just getting on and actually doing the job. Hard to imagine a less efficient process.

Council have put me off 29 times and it is now clear this is because they have sold the estate and have been running down the clock until it was no longer their responsibility. This is disgusting and dishonest behaviour. I couldn't be angrier about the amount of my time they have wasted and the cost to the council for all their prevarication must also be huge.

Posted by Lyn Woodcraft at 10:37, Mon 7 April 2008

No reply from any Council member as this is no longer their problem. They haven't given me name of new owner, or acted on the report that the wall needed URGENT attention. Please don't tell me to contact Council. I have done everything I can do with them.

Posted by Lyn Woodcraft at 08:41, Tue 6 May 2008

Conservative customer relations officer for Council has finally given me the information that the wall is to be fixed by end of May 2008 under terms of sale of Estate. Not holding my breath as this is to be done by same department who have been putting me off for a year or so.

Posted by Lyn Woodcraft at 11:38, Tue 3 June 2008

After request for exact timings, and another prompt, I heard from the very first department I ever spoke to, that they need to get tenders to do the work and they would anticipate a September or October workdate. Nobody is now responding to my point that tenders were sought a year ago - even though I have forwarded them copies of the tender. I am taking this to the Local Government Ombudsman.I couldn't be less impressed with how this Council spends our money and its time.

Now being ignored by fresh round of Lambeth COuncil employees. Have sent file to Local Government Ombudsman as exhausted by lies and incompetence.

Problem now with Local Government Ombudsman following continued misinformation from council.

Problem now with Local Government ombudsman, and overdue for response. No idea what to do next if that doesn't work either.

Posted by Lyn Woodcraft at 09:54, Wed 24 September 2008

More lies and procrastination from Council, even lying to the Ombudsman. I have lost hope that this will ever be done despite the fact that Council have legal liability to new owners of the wall, as part of the transfer.

Posted by Lyn Woodcraft at 10:08, Wed 22 October 2008

The Ombudsman has ruled that the Council have failed to keep residents properly informed of progress or plans. However, still have no date for completion of work even though it was condition of sale of estate, that the work be done.

Posted by Lyn Woodcraft at 10:36, Wed 19 November 2008

Council have still not acted on ombudsman's decision that they should nominate a single point of contact and give monthly updates on progress. Nominee didn't respond for 3 weeks and is now on further 2 week leave.

Posted by Lyn Woodcraft at 12:43, Wed 17 December 2008

Apparently I will be given an update in early January. Not holding my breath. New owners of the Estate are equally anxious for progress.

Posted by Lyn Woodcraft at 13:13, Wed 14 January 2009

Designated council contact has once again failed, post ombudsman request, to up date me on progress. Where is a person supposed to turn next?

Posted by Lyn Woodcraft at 17:03, Wed 11 February 2009

Still waiting for council to honour their obligation, not only to me, but to new owners of estate.

Posted by Lyn Woodcraft at 14:10, Thu 12 March 2009

Still no date for fixing it.

Monthly feedback from Council still states "No funding allocated" despite legal obligation to undertake work

Posted by Lyn Woodcraft at 16:35, Thu 7 May 2009

No schedule or funding yet allocated.

Latest quotations being passed from Lambeth to Presentation and back again. No real hope of success

Posted by Lyn Woodcraft at 11:04, Mon 6 July 2009

Lambeth still trying to get new owners to pay - not surprisingly they are not keen especially as quote has increased by 50% in 6 months. I don't think they will do this until a serious injury is sustained by children climbing on the wall.
