Gravel around Trees

Reported in the Pavements/footpaths category by Jane Austin at 19:01, Thu 5 March 2009
Sent to Greenwich Borough Council 3 minutes later

The gravel around the base of the trees lining this road has now spilled out over the pavement making it uneven, unsightly and posing a risk to pedestrians and children going to school. There are no retainers around the trees so this problem will persist until some better method of managing the roots is found. Normally, metal grilles are placed over the base of trees, allowing water to go through to the roots but preventing soil/gravel spillage. Can this please be investigated.

  • It has taken a number of follow-up emails and telephone calls before the Council would accept responsibility for this problem. Initially, my problem was rejected as the Council's Contact database falsely recorded this area as private property. This is not the case.
