Dangerous parking

Reported in the Car parking category anonymously at 02:38, Sat 3 January 2009
Sent to Bromley Borough Council 2 minutes later

Roads in this close are very narrow and all-day parking along the section of road indicated reduce the road to a single width use. Vehicles leaving and entering this part of Helegan Close are always at risk of collision due to the line of parked cars. Even worse is the prospect of a child playing being injured in an accident due to lack of visibility due to the parked cars. Its not really for me suggest a remedy, but a ban on all-day parking in this section of Helegan Close would certainly remove 95% of the problem.

Parking problems are still as bad as ever. In fact, what with the snow and ice we have had recently, its been even more hazardous. I have personally been involved with at least 3 near misses in the last few weeks.

Parking problems continue......... The council must impose a one hour on-road parking ban between 11 am to midday monday to fridays to stop all day parking. Not just where shown, but all streets affected.

All-day parking continues. Right up the corners of junctions and roundabouts. Causes a REAL hazard. If a Fire engine or some other large vehicle like a removals lorry needed access, it would be impossible in some locations. Bromley council MUST do something very soon. This has been getting worse over many years and is now a ridiculous state of affairs. How long before someone gets injured because of poor and restricted visibility ? ? ?

Nothing whatsoever has been done regarding this on-going problem. Vehicles are STILL being parked dangerously with scant regard for the other road users and pedestrians. One day there WILL be a bad accident because this has been ignored. A Peugeot has been left parked all day right on the roundabout junction with Tregony road. Crazy parking by lazy inconsiderate drivers. The least this person deserves is a hefty parking ticket.

Guess what? The council and police have done nothing. Not that I ever ever expected a quick knee-jerk reaction to this problem. But it would be nice to see inconsiderate and illegal parking receive a degree of punishment. Parking in and around Helegan Close and most of the lower part of the Maples development have access and parking problems monday to friday. Sometimes cars are left all day in such a way as to make even access for ordinary cars difficult. God knows how delivery lorries/rufuse collectors manage. And should an ambulance or fire engine need emergency access I would hate to think of the consequences. Come on LBB. Get your fingers out and simply ban all day parking as has been done on hundreds of other roads. Ban parking between 11am and midday for one hour. Simple.

AT LAST............. Bromley council will be yellow lining some of the problem roads in the Maples estate. However, my fear is that the offending parkers will simply move on and park elsewhere on the estate. Which will require further enforcement at a later date. But at least its a start to fix the problems that the inconsiderate and indeed illegal parking causes.

According to the local newspaper, new parking restrictions are due to begin on 01/02/2010.

Call me a cynic, but its been so long coming I wont believe it until I see it with my own eyes.

We now have yellow lines to help the problem. They certainly have helped, but there will still be the occasional jam like with a large removal lorry for example. But at least its better for 99% of the time.
